Frequently Asked Questions
Can you provide sound for outdoor ceremonies?
Absolutely. I typically set up a big, bumpin’ PA system inside with a subwoofer for your reception, then set up a separate battery-powered system with microphones and music for your ceremony.
Can we choose the music you play?
Yes! I encourage all of my clients to submit one or more playlists so I can cater the music to your taste. I will take this into consideration throughout the night while also reading the room to see what people are responding to.
How much does it cost to hire you for a wedding?
My pricing varies depending on the season, travel expenses, and the scope of your event, but it usually ranges between $1500-$2500. Here’s a video I made that explains everything I include when I DJ a wedding.
Will you stick to our do-not-play list?
100%. If there’s a song you specifically don’t want to hear, I will absolutely not be playing it! I am a big supporter of the do-not-play list, because it helps me do my best as your wedding DJ.
How do you keep the dance floor packed?
I have lots of tried and true strategies! A big group photo on the dance floor followed by a banger, mixing in slow dances here and there to give people breaks, and asking guests to circle the dance floor during formality dances are proven techniques to keep the party lively and fun.
Will you act as emcee and make announcements?
Yes! This is a big part of my job. I’m a confident, comfortable public speaker and will let everyone know exactly what to expect next. Stylistically I try to keep things classy and focused on the newlyweds, and I avoid excessive jokes or corny turns of phrase that can distract from a smooth event.
How do you help us plan the music and timeline?
I send a basic worksheet to every client that gently walks them through the planning process and communicates the important songs and announcements to me.
Do you bring backup gear in case something fails?
Yes! I have backups of my backups. I keep every important song (and my whole DJ library) downloaded and backed up to multiple devices. I bring redundancies for every possible failure point in my system to every event.
Do you offer add-ons like a photo booth or cold sparks?
Yes I do! I have a customizable stand-alone photo booth, professional-grade event intelligent lighting, an audio guestbook, and cold sparks as optional add-ons.
Do you mix songs live?
Yes! That’s the really fun part about DJing! I meticulously match songs by key and BPM and mix them seamlessly. I try to play the best parts of each song, cutting out the fluff so that I can play hundreds of songs in a night. This is called quick mixing, and it’s a technique I’ve been practicing and developing for years.
Will you coordinate with our other vendors?
Always. It’s imperative that I check in with your photographer and/or videographer before starting something like the first dance. I always talk with the catering team to make sure they’re prepared for guests before any tables hit the buffet. All day long, I’m interfacing with your team and making sure we make the best event possible behind the scenes.
